San Francisco-based DJ Nitrogen is changing the landscape of content distribution with a new ecosystem delivering social creativity, while providing partners a simpler road to monetization. Powering this solution is the DJ Nitrogen Digital Content Collaboration Platform, a legal solution to sharing user edits of copyrighted content.

Our mission is to power ecosystems where consumers benefit from having lower prices and larger selections, distributors benefit with larger market share and sales volume, while labels and artists benefit from incremental sales enabled by recommendations. Our new business model is not direct publishing, nor is it content aggregation. We are enabling our partners to monetize user-generated content, or more specifically, user edits of copyrighted content. Although our model leverages the user-enhanced content, it keeps the intellectual property owners in the revenue loop.

Key to the platform is DJ Nitrogen's patented "recipe-sharing" technology. The "recipe" is the metadata created when a user applies edits to the content. For example, in a ringtone this is the start and stop points, fades and any special effects. DJ Nitrogen stores these recipes and delivers them to other users who own the same source media files so they can replicate the edits. Users only share these metadata recipes, never the source content.
